Liquid Centre
Playhouse, Canberra Theatre Centre
5th December 2005

Based on the sociological theory ‘The Looking Glass Self’, developed by C.H. Cooley (1864-1929), Liquid Centre is an innovative and highly developed multi-media contemporary dance work that explores the complexity of the process of becoming the self, through the interaction of set, video and dance in a single space. ‘The work [comes] together as a shimmering, seamless whole.’ (Stella Wilkie: Muse Magazine: October 2003) Stretched and pulled by expectations and experience, identity weaves its way through a maze of projection, reflection and distortion.

A visually dynamic, musical and challenging work Liquid Centre will appeal to festivals and venues across Australia and internationally for its broad audience appeal, cross cultural cast and small touring personnel. The Looking Glass has been developed over a period of three years with support from artsACT and The Australian Choreographic Centre. After having a very successful premier season at The Australian Choreographic Centre in 2003 as part of the Risky Manoeuvres initiative of The Australian Choreographic Centre and The Canberra Theatre Centre, Liquid Centre will be developed and revised in 2005 specifically for touring to medium and main-stage venues.

The creative team includes, Vivienne Rogis (Choreographer), Kaoru Alfonso (Set Design) and Damian Heffernan (Videographer). The cast includes, Albert David, Jade Dewi Tyas Tungaal, Amelia McQueen, Steven Hodge and Miranda Wheen.
